A relay cascade occurs in multilingual conferences when direct language pairs between the floor speaker and all target languages are unavailable. An intermediate "pivot booth" (typically English or French) translates the speaker, while secondary and tertiary downstream booths select the pivot channel on their consoles and interpret from that intermediate audio feed into their target languages.
